How to empty ( get all water out ) the garden hose reel for winter?
Simply disconnect the inlet hose from the water spigot, and open any spray nozzle, or remove it from the hose. The water will slowly drain out of the hose. You may also pull your hose off of the reel, and wind it back in at this point to help displace some of the water in the hose. Most of the water will drain out, however you may still have some residual water in the hose.
What are the differences between the RR and PD series? The RR series reels mount with a 3 1/2" square plate that is permanently welded to the reel. All the weight is concentrated in this 3 1/2" square hole pattern. The PD series reels mount with a wall plate that is drilled to fit 16" stud walls. This more evenly dispersed the weight of the reel across a larger area for a more secure mounting. Also, the PD reel can be removed from the wall plate for winter storage. The RR series would have to be completely unbolted to be stored, leaving holes in the building.
How long is the inlet hose?
Most hose reels have 4 feet long inlet hose.
What is the composition of the hoses? The fittings? The reels? Hoses are EPDM rubber with spiral synthetic yarn reinforcement. Fittings are all solid brass.

How do I mount the wall mount hose reel properly to my wood siding? If mounting through siding or any wood frame wall, you should always mount to the studs. You will have to use a stud finder, or other means to locate the studs. Our wall plates are pierced at 16" centers. 2-1/2" x 5/16" Lag screws are preferable. Be sure to use a 1/8" or 5/32" drill bit to make pilot holes for the lag screws.
Do you make a 24" on center stud mounting plate for your PD Series; my Garage is 24" on center?
You would have to use a 2001.040 stud wall plate, and then an RR series reel, which would pull off Perpendicular to the wall.
How do I mount the reel properly to brick or stone? We will refer you to the Brick Industry Association technical note 44A. You may be able to access it from the web at http://www.brickinfo.org/pdfs/44a.pdf. It appears for most applications a "Sleeve Anchor" (figure 6) attached to either mortar or brick will do. We would suggest a 1/4" Sleeve Anchor installed in the mortar. It would be best if you were able to put one in each of the six holes. The reel would be considered a "heavy" "fixture weight" in Table #1.
What gauge steel are the reels made of? 7-16 gauge steel used on garden hose reels
What is the difference between the parallel (PL) and the perpendicular (PD) reels?

How are the reels finished?
For metal construction hose reels all finishes consist of a TGIC polyester powder-coat paint, which is baked on to the steel at 400 degrees for years of service.
